Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
