Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
