Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
